Petzl® I’D® L Self-Braking Descent Device

The Petzl® I’D® L is a self-braking descender designed for experienced rope access technicians and rescuers working with larger-diameter 12.5–13 mm ropes. Built for work positioning, controlled descent, and rescue, it combines AUTO-LOCK, anti-panic, and anti-error functions with rescue capacity for loads up to 280 kg.

Why It's Used

Technical rescue and industrial rope work can involve heavier loads and larger-diameter life-safety ropes than standard rope-access applications. The I’D® L gives technicians and rescuers precise descent control while providing automatic locking and safeguards against common operating errors.

When the handle is released, the AUTO-LOCK system automatically locks the rope without requiring the user to manually tie off the device. If the handle is pulled too aggressively during descent, the anti-panic function stops the descent. Its higher rescue working-load limit also allows the I’D® L to support two-person rescue operations within Petzl's specified limits.
