Petzl® I’D® S Control Descent Device

Petzl® I’D® S Control Descent Device

Self-Braking Descender with Anti-Panic Function

The I’D® S self-braking descender is designed for work at height and rope access applications, offering controlled, comfortable descent with enhanced safety features. Its ergonomic handle allows precise descent control, while the integrated anti-panic function and anti-error catch help reduce the risk of accidents caused by improper use.

The AUTO-LOCK system enables users to easily position themselves at a workstation without manipulating the handle or tying off the device. Once locked, slack can be taken up without disengaging the locking mechanism. A safety gate allows the rope to be installed while the descender remains connected to the harness, improving efficiency and reducing drop risk. The I’D® S is compatible with 10–11.5 mm ropes.

Self-Braking Descender for Work at Height & Rope Access

Designed for work at height and rope access applications, this self-braking descender delivers smooth, controlled descents with built-in safety features that help reduce user error.

Easy to Use

  • Safety gate on the moving side plate allows the rope to be installed while the device remains connected to the harness
  • Clear markings and an integrated rope guide simplify rope installation
  • Anti-error catch helps reduce the risk of incorrect device installation
  • Ergonomic handle provides precise rope release and comfortable descent control
  • Two descent modes: via the side plate or the V-shaped friction channel
  • Anti-panic function automatically stops descent if the handle is pulled too aggressively
  • Allows smooth movement on inclined or horizontal terrain
  • AUTO-LOCK system enables easy work positioning without tying off or manipulating the handle
Rope locks automatically when the handle is released
Automatic handle return reduces the risk of accidental snagging
  • Handle automatically returns to the storage position when the rope is removed, minimizing snag hazards while carried on the harness

Versatile Performance

  • Once locked, rope can be taken up without using the handle for reversible haul systems or short ascents
  • Cam can be manually operated to feed slack or belay a lead climber using climbing techniques
  • Moving side plate locks with a screw, allowing secure integration into rescue kits
  • Optional auxiliary brake (open or closed) can be added to improve descent control based on user weight and rope diameter
