Petzl® I’D® S Controlled Descent Device

The Petzl® I’D® S is a self-braking descender designed for experienced rope access technicians, work positioning, controlled descent, and rescue. Its anti-panic function, anti-error catch, and AUTO-LOCK system provide controlled rope management while helping reduce risks associated with incorrect installation or excessive handle operation.

Why It's Used

Technicians working on fixed ropes need a descender that provides precise control during movement while also allowing secure hands-free positioning at the work location. The I’D® S combines controlled descent, automatic locking, and multiple safeguards in one device.

When the handle is released, the AUTO-LOCK system automatically locks the rope without requiring the user to manually tie off the device. If the handle is pulled too aggressively during descent, the anti-panic function automatically stops the descent. The I’D® S can also be incorporated into compatible rescue systems for lowering two-person loads within Petzl's specified limits.
